Pay reporting and compliance requirements are more complex than ever. With the EU Pay Transparency Directive alone, the number of countries requiring reports will double by 2027. HR leaders must keep up with shifting laws and expanding regulations with limited resources. Add to this that the stakes are high, and it takes specialized expertise to ensure compliance with the maze of global pay reporting laws.

That’s why we built Expertise On Demand, now available for Global Pay Reports. Expertise On Demand is an expert AI designed to make pay reporting compliance faster, easier, and more accurate.

Expertise On Demand isn’t just another AI assistant. It’s a safe and trusted expert AI that provides in-depth guidance when you need it. Expertise On Demand is trained on Syndio’s deep domain knowledge to help you understand and simplify complex compliance requirements that require careful legal and regulatory understanding. It’s like having an expert Syndio consultant available 24/7.

But getting this right takes a thoughtful, responsible, and human-centered approach. Here’s a look at the safeguards we’ve put in place to make Expertise On Demand a trusted resource for pay reporting compliance today — and more use cases in the future.

The growing opportunity for AI in HR

Generative AI is uniquely suited for pay reporting compliance because it can rapidly process vast amounts of regulatory information and provide tailored, accurate, and transparent guidance instantly. As requirements grow and change, Generative AI can quickly synthesize and adjust its recommendations.

Expertise On Demand delivers on this promise, giving Total Rewards and compliance leaders a way to efficiently scale and manage growing compliance demands with their existing resources.

Responsible AI is the baseline

Not all AI are created equal. Through years of working with our customers on complex legal and compliance issues, we’ve seen firsthand the importance of delivering AI in a responsible way. When AI isn’t handled carefully, especially for complying with pay reporting requirements, the risks can be significant — ranging from fines and penalties due to inaccurate reporting to biased decision making that negatively impacts employees. There are also strict regulations in place when it comes to using AI for HR use cases, which must be carefully abided by.

Responsible AI is the foundation for Expertise On Demand. But what does it mean to build and deploy responsible AI applications? It means we ensure accuracy, eliminate bias, and comply with regulations. Here’s how.

Bias mitigation

Expertise On Demand delivers unbiased responses through rigorous testing, automated safeguards, and ongoing human oversight. One security measure we have in place is a “bouncer system.” This is a security measure that filters and blocks toxicity, bias, or other harmful content before it reaches the user — similar to a security guard at a club, screening individuals from entering. Expertise On Demand also employs a  “lucidity check” to verify that the AI is generating responses based on authoritative sources. This prevents misinformation or inconsistencies.

On top of these security and fact-checking mechanisms, regular human audits conducted by our team ensure Expertise On Demand remains a trusted resource for accurate, unbiased responses.

Privacy and data protection

Expertise On Demand is designed with privacy, security, and compliance at its core – and follows strict safety, testing, and governance policies to ensure responses align with regulatory standards. This includes compliance with both emerging AI regulations, such as the EU AI Act, and existing data privacy regulations, including the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

To train our models, we use  pre-approved, curated information and content — ensuring accuracy while eliminating risks of data leakage. Any user interactions that contribute to model improvements are stripped of identifiable or confidential information before being used for quality enhancement and to ensure privacy and data security.

Transparency

Syndio always discloses when users are interacting with AI, and they have the option to stop using Expertise On Demand at any time. We also “show our work”. Expertise On Demand provides clear citations and explanations so users always know the source of information. At any time, users can flag a response for review by one of Syndio’s domain experts, enabling ongoing oversight and improvement.

With these safeguards in place, Expertise On Demand delivers unbiased information, data protection, and transparency — but there’s so much more to our approach that makes Expertise On Demand a trusted expert AI.

Beyond human in the loop: “Expert in the Loop”

One of the things our customers love the most about Syndio is our team of experts. They also love that Syndio’s insights help them grow their own expertise. Human experts are at the center of our approach to AI.

The first principle is: “humans in the loop”: Expertise On Demand does not make decisions on its own; you are the decision maker. While Expertise On Demand can surface information to answer pay reporting and compliance questions, the user is responsible for ensuring the right information is included and submitting the report. By providing the sources for every answer, we enable users to verify the information Expertise On Demand is leveraging.

The second principle is: “expert in the loop”. Experts create and maintain all training content, oversee and improve outputs, and are available to interact directly with users if needed. Here’s how.

Curated content

Expertise On Demand is powered by Syndio’s deep expertise in pay equity, legal compliance, and global pay reporting, and trained on proprietary data. This includes anonymized customer questions from hundreds of global organizations and a library of best practices from nearly a decade working with more than 325 enterprises.

In addition, our domain experts wrote all of the thousands of question-and-answer pairs in the Expertise On Demand database. Expertise On Demand does not use any information directly from external websites; and any information from official government websites is curated and vetted by Syndio’s team of domain experts.

Ongoing oversight and improvement

Our expert team oversees output and reviews interactions to ensure accuracy and continuous improvement. We also update and refine insights to reflect any changes in global laws and regulations.

Escalation to experts

If Expertise On Demand doesn’t fully resolve a query, the user can escalate the request to one of Syndio’s domain experts. By requesting to speak to a human directly from the chat, it teaches Expertise On Demand — and our team — where additional information is needed, once again driving ongoing learning and improvement.

Syndio’s trusted approach to AI

Looking ahead, Expertise On Demand will continue to expand into new areas to deliver expertise at scale. Areas of focus include expert AI guidance for setting up legally compliant pay audits, insights to better explain pay policies in support of pay transparency, and more.

More than just a tool, we’re building a trusted, expert AI that enhances decision making, supports compliance, and keeps companies ahead of change — all with the same depth of insight and rigor that defines Syndio.
