In Spain, pay equity is addressed through two separate but interconnected pieces of legislation. Spain’s Royal Decree 902/2020 mandates that all employers annually prepare a Remuneration Registry (or wage registry) and audit to identify and, if applicable, rectify gender pay gaps. Additionally, Royal Decree 901/2020 necessitates that employers with 50+ employees prepare an Equality Plan — which covers many facets of at least every four years to further promote equal treatment and opportunities for all genders. As an EU Member State, Spain’s pay gap reporting obligations will be modified by the EU Pay Transparency Directive.
