Women’s History Month is a time to recognize women’s contributions to progress and innovation in science, technology, culture, art, and society — and to keep the spotlight shining on the inequities women still face in the workplace.
The gender pay gap continues to keep women from equal economic participation with men. Women still make only 82 cents for every dollar earned by a man in the U.S. — and that number drops to 70 cents for Black women and 65 cents for Latina women. The U.S. gender pay gap varies significantly by state, with Utah having the largest gap where women earn 27% less than men, followed by Louisiana, Alabama, and New Hampshire at 25%.Â
One contributing factor to the gender pay gap is the fact that women continue to face an opportunity gap when it comes to being hired and advanced into higher paying roles. According to Syndio’s Opportunity Gap Report, white women are 47% less likely than white men to be in company leadership, and women of color are 72% less likely.. At Syndio, we dedicate ourselves every day to providing solutions to help companies to measure and improve workplace equity.Â
To celebrate the women who inspire us, we’ve collected the Syndio team’s favorite memoirs, biographies, nonfiction books, documentaries, and movies about women from around the world. Below you’ll find stories about women blazing trails, creating change, sharing wisdom, and leading their fields in business, science, art, sports, and politics.Â
